The Queensland Government's proposed Gold Coast Logan Faster Rail project is causing outrage among residents in the area, as it will require the demolition of dozens of homes in the region.

| The $356.2 million project, jointly funded by the state and federal governments, aims to create 20 kilometers of new track and rail systems between Kuraby and Beenleigh stations. However, the project will require the resumption of properties, leaving many residents without a place to call home.

Currently, 331 property owners in the area are being consulted about the project, with some set to lose some of their land and others facing the complete demolition of their homes. Residents like Mian Waqr, who recently rebuilt his Woodridge home, are devastated by the news. Cheryl Love, who has lived in her home for 38 years, is also facing the possibility of losing her property, which holds sentimental value as the place she raised her children and nursed her late husband until his death.

Gabie Cocoran, whose home of 32 years is also set for resumption, has started a petition calling for the government to change the project's plans. Many other residents in the area are also voicing their concerns and calling for a different plan that will allow people to keep their homes.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey has assured residents that local feedback will be taken into account, and appropriate adjustments will be made. A business case is set to be completed by the end of 2021, with the project aiming to maximize efficient travel in time for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.

The proposed rail project is crucial for the expected population boom between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in the lead up to the Games, but it is vital that residents' needs and concerns are taken into account. As the Minister said, every single person matters in this process, and efforts must be made to ensure that residents are not left without a place to call home.
